Members of a Shoals area church are upset after someone targeted their sign to display racial slurs.
Church members arrived this morning at the New Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Lauderdale County to find the words rearranged on their message board in front of the church. It read "We hate whites blacs (sic) only"
Church leader Wanda Alexander says the sign usually displays what time the church meets. So when she arrived to see the letters re-arranged, she was very disappointed.
"What hurts the most is it being God's house and the people that had to ride up and down the highway and see that on our billboard stating that we hated white people in our church and that's not true... we have white members and we welcome anybody."
When Alexander says "we welcome anybody" she means it. She's invited whoever is responsible to come to her church this weekend for services, saying she loves and forgives whoever it is.
Alexander says this is not the first time the church had been vandalized with racial slurs.
