The Shoals Salvation Army is working on re-stocking their shelves after someone recently stole thousands of food items.
Salvation Army officials said that more than 2,000 cans and some dry foods were stolen from a storage house behind their office in Florence.
Most of the cans were collected in a recent food drive done by the postal service.
Now, because of an increased demand, officials are scrambling to collect enough food to provide for families currently in need.
"If someone really needed it, all they had to do was make a call to the office and make an appointment with our case worker," said Patricia Clemmons, the Salvation Army business administrator. "They would've been given enough food for their family, and then it would've left enough to help some other families also. It's just really sad."
Those wishing to help can drop off donations at any Salvation Army in the Shoals or at their home office located at 1601 Huntsville Rd. in Florence. For more information call (256) 764-4432.
