Fire fighters from five different departments are battling to keep a brush fire in Lauderdale County contained.
The call came in to the Center Star Fire Department around 12:45 Thursday afternoon. Soon, help was on the way from Killen, Green Hill, Lexington and Rogersville as well as state forestry units.
By the time crews arrived at the scene off County Road 69, the fire had spread to be about 8-10 acres in size. Over the next hour, they were able to bring the fire under control, but it had burned more than 20 acres in that time.
The Center Star Fire Chief said the flames could have started by a cigarette butt, but the cause is still under investigation.
