People driving around Decatur have a reason to be happy going in to the weekend. Gas prices around town have dropped below $3 a gallon.
However that's not the case for all towns. Tonya Cole lives in Moulton where prices are still well above the $3 mark. That's why she travels to Decatur to buy gas.
"I work in Tanner, and I usually get my gas in Decatur because it usually is a lot cheaper," said Cole. "Actually I'm going on a trip this weekend, and when I pulled up and saw that it was $2.95 I thought, 'Woohoo!' So, it'll be a lot cheaper."
Local gas station owners said that it's been about a year since prices have dropped below $3 a gallon.
Our Facebook fans also report gas under $3 in Guntersville and Tullahoma.
"I was on my first 15 minute lunch break and noticing prices were under $3, and I was like I hadn't seen that in over 3 or 4 years," said Daniel Burgess who works in Decatur. "So with the economy being the way it is and taking care of responsibilities, I was actually excited that gas was $2.99."
Recent high school graduate Abby Ballard said that she hopes the prices continue dropping.
"I definitely have a lot more money now that I don't spend it on gas all the time," said Ballard. "We're actually going to Nashville right now, and I only spent $25 on it and usually it'd be like $50."
Others agree, it's nice to have a break at the pumps.
"If the gas prices will stay like they are now, I'm sure there will be a lot of happy people out here," said Burgess.
Cole agreed, "I'm hoping it at least stays where it is right now. I mean it would be nice if it came down more, but a little bit is better than nothing."
