(MYFOX DETROIT) – A portion of a terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport was evacuated after authorities say a man walked through a passenger screening checkpoint and refused to comply with security officers.
Screening was halted and gates closed off the terminal about 7:51 a.m. while officials viewed security videotape of the incident to find out what happened, according to airport spokesman Mike Conway.
The man was taken custody.
"TSA followed him and tried to stop him, airport police were called, they confronted him and he wasn't really listening to what he was being asked to do," Conway said.
Conway also says the man's vehicle was located at the airport in suburban Detroit, searched and towed.
One small section of the terminal was closed off and passengers had to be re-screened.
Sources tell Fox 2 that airport officers went running through the crowd and screamed "everybody out" and "get out of here."
"About eight officers were escorting a guy out the door and into a state police car and I heard someone yell 'get him out of here," John Pecha of Harrison Township told WWJ radio.
It's unclear at this point if the man will face criminal charges. He was talking with police.
Passenger screening resumed around 8:40 a.m., according to Conway.
Fox 2 News has a crew at the airport and this story will be updated shortly. Log on at 11:00a.m. for a live report.
