(MYFOX NATIONAL) - This week Mariah Carey has been recognized for her acting and singing, but her displays on the stage at two awards shows have brought her new attention.
Last night at the People's Choice Award in Los Angeles on stage to accept an award for Favorite R&B Artist, Carey appeared unsteady on her feet and drew attention to her very tight dress. She thanked God, her handlers, and her husband "for helping me with this dress because ... it's a drama." She then went on to thank husband Nick Cannon for "many other things I probably shouldn't mention."
Popeater noted that while she looked "glam - if dangerously busty - in her mermaid-style gown, it's clear Carey didn't go for an experimental walk before donning the tight dress for the award ceremony."
But on Tuesday night at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala Carey made a bigger scene. She was named "Breakthrough Actress" for her performance in "Precious" and while on stage she rambled and slurred through her speech.
Carey gave a big hug to "Precious" director, Lee Daniels, before launching into a drawn out speech. At one point she said, "Please forgive me because I'm a little, um, yeah ..."
At that point an audience member finished her statement with an obscenity and Carey replied, "Yeah!" with a reeling laugh, The Desert Sun reported.
Leaving the stage, the diva thanked the audience "for listening to my little spiel, and God bless you."
Carey's speech was widely seen on the internet and brought attention to the movie festival, which was happy for the exposure. "I'm not making any kind of deal out of it," said festival board chairman Harold Matzner to the newspaper. "She's young, she's glamorous and she certainly brought that to the gala last night."
After she left the stage with her award, Sean Penn said of Carey, "Think anything is going to make YouTube tonight?"
